If Natalie Portman can do it, then so can they. Students from Daniel Bagley Elementary are out to prove that kids can throw down a plié as good as any adult.

Through Pacific Northwest Ballet's Discover Dance program, the students have been taking dance classes during the day integrated into their other subjects.

On March 26, they will join students from Pinehurst K-8, Eastgate Elementary and Graham Hill Elementary, as well as PNB company dancers, onstage for a 250-student-strong performance at McCaw Hall.

Discover Dance provides dance education to schools that offer no other dance opportunities. The service is free for the schools.

The following thoughts were offered from students when Daniel Bagley Elementary participated in the program in 2008:

  • "I thought it would be girly, but it is realy fun."
  • "Our class thought of some of the combinations, like sauté, sauté, echappé."
  • "Before, I had major stage fright. But after I performed in front of 2,000 people, I knew I could do anything."
