Gym owner warns of serial car prowler on the loose | 911
Surveillance cameras captured a serial thief targeting cars in the parking lot of a gym on Tuesday night, attempting to strike for the eleventh time.
The security team at Northwest CrossFit says the thieves wait until a fitness class is underway - they know the attendees will be committed to their workout for an hour - then goes after valuables left behind in cars.
Three videos have shown same woman casing the lot in the 400 block of NE 70th St., parking next to her target car, then breaking the window before grabbing a valuable item and taking off.
Cameras captured the woman in the act on Tuesday morning. The same woman returned just hours later, but the owners, who were lying in wait, chased her off the property.
"It's on a circuit," said Jake Platt of Northwest CrossFit. They come in here, have an accomplice who's the lookout, making sure no one's coming in. Then she comes in, looks in all the cars real quick, comes in, breaks in, takes off."
The thief is driving a maroon-colored early 2000 model of Jeep Laredo. She has dark hair with a blond streak on top. And it appears her accomplice was driving a silver Mazda 626 with tinted windows.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
